A producer at Konami acknowledges how much of a desire there is for a new Castlevania game after the recently released Dead Cells crossover DLC. The franchise remains a beloved one in the eyes of the gaming community, even if it has lacked new titles in recent years. While fans of the franchise have had a bone thrown their way with ports of beloved Castlevania games, some still wish to see another adventure with the classic vampire killers. This desire was acknowledged by the supervisor of the recently released Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania DLC.

The DLC was released earlier this year, where players get to explore a brand-new biome that is based on Konami's classic franchise. Not only that, but players can even play as the popular Richter Belmont in Dead Cells via a special mode. The DLC's supervisor, Konami's Tsutomu Tanigushi, joked that this DLC was an "isekai," where Dracula's Castle has mysteriously transported to the world of Dead Cells, where the events are locked to the island and nowhere else in the canon. Taniguchi also acknowledges that fans want to see a new game in Konami's franchise too.

In an interview with IGN, Taniguchi noted that there was a palpable amount of "excitement and enthusiasm" for Castlevania online. He notes it is also a rather motivating notion for Konami, especially when the series was previously left on the proverbial shelf to languish. Taniguchi acknowledged past efforts to bring back the games people loved, such as the aforementioned remastered ports, along with the re-launch of Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls in 2021 for Apple Arcade.

Dead Cells Castlevania

From there, Taniguchi said that fans always wanted more from the Castlevania franchise, and this crossover with Dead Cells was "impossible to pass up on" as well. In regard to Dead Cells itself, Taniguchi was honored that the indie game was influenced by Konami's classic franchise, and considered the former to be one of the "greatest indie games" in the past ten years. This meant that when Evil Empire and Motion Twin approached Konami for the DLC collaboration, the developers gave their full approval to honor the franchise.

Castlevania joins other Konami franchises that haven't had anything new released in years, the remastered collections and Netflix anime adaptation notwithstanding. That being said, there are signs Konami is planning on bringing back many of its major gaming franchises. This includes multiple Silent Hill projects, along with a rumored E3 lineup that features Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid. Hopefully the success of this Dead Cells DLC does lead to a new Castlevania game in the future, though fans will need to wait and see.
