Adi Shankar, the producer of the new Castlevania animated series recently announced by Netflix, has unveiled the first piece of artwork associated with the project. As fans of the franchise might expect, a massive gothic castle and an enormous blood moon are prominent on the poster.

The Castlevania series was announced earlier this month, with a 2017 release date for the first set of episodes. When Shankar shared the new poster on Facebook, he reiterated that the series will debut on Netflix later this year.

While the poster is likely just concept art, it will be interesting to see whether the series itself resembles its art style. The subdued palette and detailed illustration sets a rather mature tone, which makes sense in the show is going to live up to Shankar's earlier comments that compared its tone to Game of Thrones.

The poster does seemingly confirm that Netflix's Castlevania series will take place in a castle worthy of the game's impossible feats of architecture. There are also plenty of bats circling the surrounding area, poised to transform into blood-sucking creatures of the night.

We still don't know very much about how this take on Konami's classic vampire-slaying series will play out. We know that it's set in Europe, we know that it follows the final surviving member of the Belmont clan, and we know that Vlad Dracula will be the big bad — but that's about it.

Still, if the series is scheduled to debut before the end of the year, we're sure to hear more details soon. Shankar shared this early poster on his personal Facebook account, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the producer's social media presence become the go-to for Castlevania news over the coming months.

Castlevania is set to air on Netflix in 2017.
