Konami’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow enjoyed a largely positive fan reception and was generally (though not universally) well-received critically. The game reaped the benefits of those encouraging reactions by shipping over a million units.
Players who enjoyed the latest 3D incarnation of the iconic Castlevania franchise will be happy to know that developer MercurySteam may be working on a sequel, if a hint from producer Dave Cox is anything to go by.
The Castlevania: Lords of Shadow producer has been constantly teasing the existence of a sequel on his Twitter account. It started off during January of 2012 when Cox tweeted an article about 24 titles set to redefine gaming this year, a list which included Lords of Shadow’s unannounced sequel. His tweet was accompanied by a succinct “Tweeted without comment :)” message.
“Today and tomorrow I am in the land of Dracul… What am I doing there?? You will see…. :)”
While some may argue that he could be in Transylvania for any given reason, considering his track history of hints pertaining to the existence of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, it’s likely that his presence in the region is related to the IP in one way or another. To add further credence to this particular hint, the producer issued a myriad of Tweets during February (collected on NeoGAF) that are possibly connected to a sequel.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 had previously been confirmed by the composer of the title’s soundtrack, Oscar Araujo, who stated “If you liked the first [game], hope that the second is even more spectacular.” It should also be noted that Cox assured fans during Castlevania’s 25th anniversary that the future of the IP is secure and that Konami will never kill off the franchise.
Though developed by the Spain-based MercurySteam, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and his studio, Kojima Productions, played an instrumental part in the development of Lords of Shadow as they supervised and assisted with the creation of the IP’s reboot. The title follows a new recruit of the Belmont clan, Gabriel, who is a member of the Brotherhood of Light. For more on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, be sure to check out Game Rant’s review.
