Castle Crashers may have easily been one of the biggest hits early in the last generation when it released on the Xbox Live Arcade a bit over a decade ago and is often considered one of the best modern beat 'em ups. While the game had been given a release date on Nintendo Switch a few weeks ago, there had been no official release date for the PlayStation 4 version that has now been given one.

Castle Crashers has been given multiple releases over the years, starting with its Xbox Live Arcade release in 2008 and, later, a PlayStation 3 release in 2010. In 2012, the popular indie title got a PC release and was given an Xbox One remaster in 2015. Finally, Castle Crashers developer The Behemoth announced versions of Castle Crashers for the Switch and PS4 this August, giving the Switch rendition a release date but not providing one for the PlayStation 4 version.

The PlayStation 4 version of Castle Crashers Remastered has now been given a mutual release date of the Switch version of the game. The Behemoth announced on its website that the remaster is being released for PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch on September 17 in North America and September 19 in Europe.

This may come as a bit of a pleasant shock to some PS4 owners who were looking forward to the game's release. As mentioned previously, Castle Crashers Remastered had no set release date for PS4 at the time of its announcement for both Sony's current-gen console and the Nintendo Switch. Castle Crashers Remastered has been on Xbox One for a while, offering a deal upon its release to XBLA version owners that allowed them to download Castle Crashers Remastered on Xbox One for free. Finally, Switch and PS4 owners will have a chance to play Castle Crashers Remastered.

Furthermore, the game's PS4 and Switch releases may attract players of the original version, given the game's popularity. Castle Crashers was played by over two million XBLA users alone, so fans may return on other consoles to experience the game all over again.

Castle Crashers is currently available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox One, and it will release on Nintendo Switch and PS4 on September 17, 2019.
