Captain America: The First Avenger just turned 10 years old and throughout that period fans have come up with many theories surrounding Steve Rogers’ extended lifetime. Fortunately, a recent interview with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely solved most of those questions, no matter how intimate they were.

Markus and McFeely not only co-wrote all three Captain America movies, but their screenplay style was so successful that Marvel Studios also chose them to pen Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Suffice to say, nobody has a better grasp of  Steve Rogers’ MCU life than this duo, so it was only natural for them to reminisce over some of the decisions made around the character after a decade, including the internet’s long-standing theory that Captain America was still a virgin when he was frozen for the latter half of the 20th century

In the full interview by Yahoo Entertainment, both writers directly addressed whether Steve Rogers ever had sex before putting the Infinity Stones back where they belonged and traveling back in time to settle down with the love of life, Peggy Carter. McFeely was even caught off-guard by the theory, asking, “Why do people think he’s a virgin?” It is a bit hard to imagine Rogers’ USA promotional tour in the first Captain America film was anything short of a rockstar’s life. So, the writer's said, “If you look like that, and you’re going city to city, and you’re signing autographs for the likes of the ladies that he’s signing the autographs for, I’ve got to imagine that [he lost his virginity].”

'The Falcon and Winter Soldier' Writers Don't Know What Happened To Old Steve Rogers

Markus went on to confirm this by making it clear that despite Rogers’s high moral ground, the character was never conceived to be overly conservative. “He’s a guy that believes in right and wrong and all these things, but he’s not a choirboy. He’s a World War II veteran,” he said. Thus, anyone wondering why Rogers only ever kissed two Carter women on-screen during the Infinity Saga should rest assured that Captain America was doing quite well with the opposite sex back in 1943.

Both Markus and McFeely also commented on other anecdotic facts related to the first Captain America movie, like the scrapped idea that had Rogers fighting a giant Nazi robot controlled by Red Skull towards the end of The First Avenger, which was actually cut mostly for budget reasons. More interestingly, they recalled Sebastian Stan’s audition for the Captain America role and how they instantly thought of a better use for the type of troubled Steve Rogers he delivered that would be so perfect for the future Winter Soldier.

Although Markus and McFeely didn’t work on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the influences of their writing can be felt all over the series, especially due to Bucky’s connection to Steve and similar fan theories regarding the Winter Soldier’s sexuality. With Sam Wilson inheriting Captain America's shield, fans should probably assume this other patriotic superhero won't have any problems dating as well, even if it's not shown in Captain America 4.

Captain America 4 is currently in development.
