Captain America has always had a more grounded feel to him than most superheroes, perhaps because super soldier juice aside, it doesn't really seem that far-fetched to toss around a vibranium shield just like Steve Rogers used to do. Now, thanks to a fan's MCU-inspired ingenuity, that might be possible.

No, no recent scientific breakthrough has resulted in the discovery of vibranium or anything the comes remotely close to the legendary Marvel metal, but having Sam Wilson and John Walker toss the Captain America shield in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier did make the feat feel even more approachable. Since Anthony Mackie has grown so fond of his new role as Captain America, now is about a good time as any to brush up on some shield tossing training and take a look at how that gear could come to life.

Enter YouTuber Jake Laser, who's been putting his college education in physics and math to good use by creating gadgets and videos that focus on making possible the kind of feats one is used to seeing in Marvel, Star Wars, and many other sci-fi classics. In this case, Laser quickly points out the biggest question posed by Marvel Studios magic when it comes to Cap's shield, that being how it manages to be so incredibly strong while still possessing unique qualities that allow it to bounce off anything and fly right back to its wielder's hands. He then proceeds to rule out a potential shield workaround before settling on a carbon fiber frisbee build wrapped with a fiberglass ring to provide it with all the bounciness it would need to take down Hydra, but it's best to hear it straight from him.

Naturally, like in any scientific endeavor, Laser runs into more than a couple of hiccups before settling on a definitive prototype for his Captain America shield. The challenges involved everything from a rigidity shield, deciding on the perfect weight, and how to deal with the constant wear and tear it might suffer each time it crashes onto a wall, as well as the all-important aspect of making it look cool and patriotic to fit Cap's image. To make things even better, this Captain America prop comes with a couple of magnets that allow it to quickly stick onto the accompanying wristband for a fully practical Marvel experience.

For those interested in owning this usable Captain America shield to practice some wall-bouncing trick shots and getting into perfect MCU shape just like Mackie, Laser is giving away one of the two finished prototypes seen on the video from his JLaservideo channel, where his previous marvelous work can be found. Some of his best inventions include working Spider-Man web-shooters, a James Bond scuba gadget, and enough Iron Man props to make Stark Industries envious of his technology.

Captain America 4 is currently in development at Marvel Studios.
