Despite Marvel's Avengers taking an original narrative canon, it seems as though its skin cosmetics based on costume iterations from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are some of its most popular content nowadays. Lately, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix have announced and released MCU-inspired skins frequently to compensate for fans' requests.

But among all of the skin cosmetics that Marvel's Avengers could add, Captain America's look in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) has arguably been the most highly anticipated. This is perhaps because Steve Rogers' bearded, rugged aesthetic in Avengers: Infinity War is so starkly different from his traditional clean-cut appearance. Regardless, it appears that the cosmetic is set to appear in the game, though its potential reveal may have been a leak rather than an official announcement.

Marvel's Avengers recently sent out its latest Marketplace update email. In it, Captain America's Avengers: Infinity War cosmetic is seen front-and-center alongside a number of other Marketplace recommendations. But because it was not given a proper announcement on Marvel's Avengers' socials similar to each of its other MCU-inspired cosmetic announcements, it seems likely that Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix did not mean for the cosmetic to be featured in the Marketplace update correspondence.

However, there are already some features about the cosmetic that the Marvel's Avengers community has gripes with. Firstly, fans believe that Steve's beard has been cut-and-pasted from Tony Stark's shaggy, unkempt look. This might be the case, though it is also possible that the two beards are fairly similar in length. Additionally, fans think Steve's hair should have been changed to represent the longer, slicked back bangs that he has in the film. Fans also have reservations about the suit cosmetic not featuring its unique Wakandan gauntlet shields that appear in Avengers: Infinity War.

This was perhaps the largest request from players who had wishlisted the cosmetic, stating that they would have liked a complete ability overhaul for the cosmetic alone to accommodate for a melee-focused Captain America. But for an individual cosmetic to receive an entirely new combat system in Marvel's Avengers seems superfluous, particularly if not every cosmetic grants something new in gameplay, so it is unsurprising that they chose to keep his iconic shield instead.

Since the email was put out, it has since been "corrected" with a follow-up email that replaces Captain America's Infinity War skin with Black Panther's Civil War skin, which was previously given an appropriate announcement. It appears as though Square Enix has acknowledged that the cosmetic leaked within the email, and this correction of that may determine that it was not a conscious reveal on the part of the developer.

Regardless, it seems like Marvel's Avengers fans can look forward to Captain America's bearded appearance at some point in the future.

Marvel's Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
