Capitan America 4 is on its way, with a new title and a surprise appearance from a former archeology professor. Now called Captain America: Brave New World, the upcoming film will be the first one without Chris Evans in the titular role and sees Anthony Mackie taking on the blue and red shield.

The events of Avengers: Endgame saw Evans' Steve Rogers pass down the shield and his Captain America responsibilities to then-Falcon Sam Wilson (Mackie), who viewers first met during Captain America: Winter Soldier in 2014. Eventually, a deeper dive into the character came during the 2021 Disney Plus series The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, which explored Wilson's journey as he contemplated whether he was willing and worthy of taking on the role passed down to him. Marvel Studios later announced that a fourth Captain America movie was in the works. Back then, the film was titled New World Order.

Marvel Studios has officially announced the new Captain America: Brave New World title. The Studio also unveiled a behind-the-scenes Captain America 4 photo of Mackie wearing the emblematic American superhero attire, accompanied by Harrison Ford, who is seen simply wearing a black t-shirt and pants. Along with the new title, the studio also reaffirmed the film will be released in theaters on May 3, 2024. "When Harrison Ford tells you how kicking ass should look, you listen!" Mackie said in an Instagram post sharing the same photo. "Thanks for the on set wisdom and laughs my friend!"

Though little details have been revealed about the film, Brave New World will be co-written by Falcon And The Winter Soldier duo Malcolm Spellman and Julius Onah, who is also set to direct for Marvel Studios. Captain America 4 will follow Mackie's acceptance and experience as the new Captain America, while Ford is making his MCU debut as President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. Ford took over the latter role after the death of William Hurt in March 2022. Other actors are reprising their Marvel roles, including Falcon And The Winter Soldier's Isaiah Bradley, played by Carl Lumbly, and the Incredible Hulk's Samuel Sterns and Betty Ross, portrayed by Tim Blake and Liv Tyler, respectively.

The fourth installment comes after a year of mixed reviews for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For instance, this year's Ant-Man and the Wast: Quantumania received a 48 percent critic score on Metacritic, and its momentum was cut short amid controversy surrounding Jonathan Majors, who played Kang, the new overarching villain of the MCU. Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 received a 64 percent score on Metacritic and was generally well-received among fans.

Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled to hit theaters on May 4, 2024.
