Capcom has been responsible for some iconic titles since its inception in 1979 and has found recent success in its remakes of classic games. After the critical acclaim given to the remake of Resident Evil 2, Capcom seems to be pursuing a strategy or remaking nostalgic favorites alongside new games. It is now understood that a support team for the remake of Resident Evil 3 is working on a larger project for the developer and publisher. Furthermore, the team has some notable members.
Capcom is responsible for acclaimed franchises such as Devil May Cry, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter. With its long list of hit titles, varied genres, and lengthy history a remake could come from a rich back catalog. What is certain, is that the developer is called M-Two Inc. and it features former PlatinumGames CEO Tatsuya Minami and designer Tsutomu Teranish who both worked on Mega Man.
Despite being technically independent, M-Two Inc. is financially backed by Capcom and VGC claims that the developer is working on a large project for the publisher. Naturally, high-profile game industry professionals and rumors of a remake have led to plenty of speculation about what title M-Two may be working on. There are already theories of a Resident Evil 4 remake that would make linear sense given the last two remakes, but there are also some outside contenders such as Breath of Fire which was primarily a Japanese exclusive when it was originally released in 1993.
Twitter user, AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem, who is known for well-researched theories is already disregarding the potential of a Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake and also claimed the new title is not Dino Crisis when asked. Naturally, the full story will come to light when the developer reveals its plans and roadmap, for now, players can only hope that their favorite title will be remade. In the meantime, it seems that Capcom has plenty on the horizon for fans.
While many will hope that games like Dino Crisis are remade by Capcom, it will be interesting to see what M-Two is working on and whether it can match the success of recent remakes. With the experience the developer has as well as the early positive reviews of Resident Evil 3, it would not be surprising to see M-Two deliver something special.
