It is no secret that next-generation consoles are already on the horizon now that both Microsoft and Sony confirmed the current development of its upcoming systems. Of course, a transition from one generation of machines to the other could prove to be a challenge for some gaming developers, especially because of issues that may arise from current game engines.

However, Capcom recently revealed that its proprietary RE Engine is already prepared to run games for next-generation consoles. In a recent earnings report, Capcom revealed that the RE engine, which was used to make a couple of Resident Evil games and the latest Devil May Cry title, has been designed ever since the beginning to be easily tweaked for the next-generation.

Capcom also revealed that it sees the engine as one of its strongest assets and was proud to say that the games that came out of it were given positive praise by both players and video game critics. Given this, it is likely that more Capcom games, whether from this generation of consoles or the next, will be made using the RE engine.

Although conversation about next-generation consoles has been going on for quite some time now, the video game industry didn't really put much thought into it until Microsoft and Sony officially confirmed the development of their next-generation systems. Last month, Sony made a surprising reveal of the PS5's hardware specs and confirmed that the upcoming console will be backward compatible with the PS4.

Microsoft, on the other hand, confirmed its upcoming console a little bit earlier than Sony. During Microsoft's presentation at E3 2018, Phil Spencer teased fans that it is already working on the successor of the Xbox One. While no specific hardware details have been revealed as of the moment, many industry insiders believe that the next-generation Xbox will be more powerful than the PS5. Of course, it is too early to tell as of the moment given that both consoles are still in development, but it is interesting to see which next-gen system will reign supreme.

As for what's next at Capcom, the Japanese publisher and developer previously revealed that a remake of Resident Evil 3 is bound to happen if fans ask for it. Of course, given that Resident Evil 2 remake was a resounding success, it is likely that RE3 remake will be the next game in Capcom's roster, if not Resident Evil 8.
