This past November, Capcom was the victim of a major cyber attack, courtesy of a hacker group called Ragnar Locker. At the time, Capcom warned that sales reports, financial data, information on upcoming games, and personal information of current and former Capcom employees had been compromised.

Initially, it was believed that upwards of 350,000 people may have potentially been affected by the hack, which included customers and business partners. At the time, it was reported that only the personal information for nine people had been accessed, but now Capcom has revealed that the figures are much worse.

According to the company, a further 16,406 people have had their information - names, addresses, phone numbers etc. - compromised, with the maximum number of potential victims also rising to approximately 390,000. Fortunately, none of the stolen information included credit card data, as that is handled by a third-party company.

Capcom also adds that the areas impacted by the attack are unrelated to anything involving connecting to the Internet to play or purchase games online. As such, it is completely safe for people to do so without fearing that their information will be leaked too.

Capcom mentions that its internal systems have been mostly recovered and business operations have now returned to normal, but it will continue to work with the authorities and investigate the incident, while contacting anyone who has been affected. It has also taken steps to improve its security so another attack doesn't happen again.

Since the security breach, the hackers responsible have also been releasing private info concerning upcoming releases, such as Resident Evil 8, which is due for release this year. A development build of the game was made available and several cutscenes and story details have spread across certain forums.

Capcom's release plans for the next four years was also shared online and while some of the games were listed were already known about, like Street Fighter 6, there were several as of yet unannounced games related to Mega ManResident Evil, and Ace Attorney. It's important to note, though, that the release schedule could already be outdated, as it's possible Capcom has changed its plans.

Capcom isn't even the only company to have been subjected to a cyber attack recently. Only last month, Koei Tecmo was forced to shut down its official American and European websites upon discovering that login details related to its forums were leaked.

Recently, Capcom has shared a new set of guidelines for content creators and streamers that wish to make videos of its games. If anyone fails to follow these guidelines, their content will be removed, though said guidelines have been criticized for being rather vague in certain parts.
