Following the release of Resident Evil 7, many fans of the survival-horror franchise heartily agreed that its latest installment was easily one of the best horror games of 2017, and left them wanting more. Now, it looks as if an image found over on the official page for Biohazard–that is, the Japanese title for the property–could potentially indicate that Capcom is set to reveal a new Resident Evil project soon.

As seen in the image below from the Twitter account known as "Resident Evil Plus+," Capcom's Japanese website for the series not only displays some familiar titles such as Resident Evil 7 and the Revelations games, but also there’s an entirely new placeholder set to the farthest left-hand side. While it doesn't provide any sort of image other than the word "Biohazard" at the bottom, with scant details beyond that, it could point toward an impending announcement related to a new game.

While there's the possibility that the listing is in relation to a new Resident Evil game, it's also feasible that Capcom will go on to fill the space with a listing for the long-awaited full remake of Resident Evil 2. After all, the 20th anniversary for the second entry in the franchise is fast approaching–originally releasing way back on January 21, 1998–and Capcom could wind up using this year's date as a way to surprise fans with an announcement that the RE2 remake is coming in 2018.

On the other hand, the listing could be indicative of an upcoming port for one of the existing titles in the survival-horror series, especially when one considers how Capcom once asked Nintendo to increase the Switch's RAM to support the RE Engine, which powers Resident Evil 7. Bearing this in mind, it wouldn't be too outlandish to eventually see the vacant Biohazard post on the Japanese website be updated to reflect an RE7 port for Switch.

Naturally, Capcom has remained mum on the issue, so there's really not much else that the Resident Evil fan base can do but wait for the publisher and developer to make an official announcement. That said, though, with Capcom having placed such a mysterious post on the Biohazard page, it's definitely difficult for fans to avoid speculation.

Capcom's latest entry in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 7, is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
