Retro consoles have always been immensely special for a significant part of the gaming audience, given the amount of nostalgia they carry for so many. Japanese giants such as Nintendo, Sony and Capcom are some of the driving forces behind this trend, as fans saw devices like the NES Classic, PlayStation Classic, and Capcom Home Arcade over the past few years. As it seems, Capcom is yet again ready to release another mini-arcade tabletop machine that comes packed with some of the most beloved titles that helped lay the foundation for what Capcom is today.

Capcom has now revealed a new mini-arcade console called the Retro Station, which will ship with its family of games that includes some of the Street Fighter and Mega Man titles. This retro micro-machine features an 8-inch, non-adjustable screen and weighs a mere 2.1 Kg. It ships with a total of 10 games which are:

  • Mega Man The Power Battle
  • Mega Man 2 The Power Fighters
  • Mega Man X
  • Mega Man Soccer
  • Mega Man & Bass (Japanese Console Version)
  • Street Fighter II
  • Street Fighter II' Champion Edition
  • Super Street Fighter II
  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo
  • Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

Unfortunately, Capcom's Retro Station is only scheduled to release in Japan with no western release window in sight. While the official price hasn't been confirmed as of this writing, Siliconera said that it would cost 21,789 yen, which roughly equals to $210.

While a western release for this Retro Station may seem like a distant reality at this point, fans shouldn't lose hope as it is being reported that Gantaku is handling the production of this table-top unit. Gantaku also handled the production of Neo Geo Mini, another popular, retro console that ultimately saw a worldwide release.

Releasing retro consoles jam-packed with classic titles is the perfect way to preserve the company's legacy and Capcom is not leaving any stones unturned. Seeing the resounding success of Capcom Home Arcade that shipped along with some of its most popular arcade games such as Aliens vs. Predators, Mega Man The Power Battle, etc, it was only a matter of time when Capcom doubles down on releasing more retro consoles featuring similarly nostalgic yet powerful titles.

While Capcom's Retro Station seems like a decent package that would enthrall its fans with a deep sense of nostalgia, it also seems to have one major issue. As is indicative of the pictures, this arcade system seems to be having a single port for a controller, which seems pretty ironic considering it comes packed with the Street Fighter games that can only be fully enjoyed when playing with others.

Retro Station will release in Japan on December 1, 2020.
