Capcom has plans to release a "major" unannounced title before the end of the current financial year. Leaked slides from an investor presentation confirmed the existence of the mysterious project, sending the internet into a frenzy of speculation regarding the identity of the game.
For the past thirty years, Capcom has released a continuous stream of games that have captivated audiences. As such, there are all kinds of different projects that fans would love to see the company pursue.
One theory that is already gathering momentum is that the unannounced title is a new entry in the Devil May Cry series. Ninja Theory's DmC: Devil May Cry split opinion back in 2013, but four years on there are scores of gamers who would love to see something new from the hugely popular hack-and-slash franchise.
However, Ninja Theory downplayed the idea of DmC 2 just a few days ago, so it seems unlikely that a direct follow-up to the most recent game is inbound this year. That said, the reins to the franchise could be simply have been handed over to another development studio.
Of course, there are countless other projects that could be in the works at Capcom. Deep Down was unveiled alongside the PlayStation 4 reveal back in 2013, but we've seen very little of the project since then. There's also the planned remake of Resident Evil 2, which entered development in 2015.
It's very difficult to predict which project will turn out to be Capcom's major unannounced title for 2017. However, it'll be well worth watching the company's activities as we hit major gaming events like E3 and Gamescom.
