Japanese gaming giant Capcom was recently the victim of a ransomware attack, with hackers stealing data on upcoming games as well as the personal information of thousands of employees. Capcom confirmed that no customer credit card information or anything like that was stolen, which should ensure that the company retains consumer confidence.

The upcoming games leaked by the hackers may potential reveal some of the projects that Capcom has in store for fans in the near future. Luckily for the company, some of Capcom's in-development projects are still known only by codenames, and many of the other details don't necessarily constitute major surprises that would potentially hurt its momentum by them being revealed prematurely.

For those curious, here are the big leaks from the recent Capcom hack.

Ace Attorney

While it's certainly a niche product, Capcom's Ace Attorney franchise certainly has a dedicated fanbase, and they may be hungry for new releases. According to the Capcom leak, fans have a brand new game in the series to look forward to next year in the form of Ace Attorney 7, which will evidently launched at some point in Q3. Those in the west may also finally get to play the Great Ace Attorney games, which were originally released for the 3DS but never launched outside of Japan.

Apparently, Great Ace Attorney will be announced for PS4, Switch, and PC at some point in April 2021, with a planned July 2021 release date. If the leak is to be believed, Great Ace Attorney will have trophy support, new quality of life enhancements, and more, with both games bundled together for $40. All of the DLC that was released for the original Great Ace Attorney games on 3DS will also be included in the bundle.

Meanwhile, Japan may also have a special bundle that brings together Great Ace Attorney along with the original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney trilogy. That bundle is rumored to be in development for PS4 and Switch.

Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter World is one of Capcom's most successful games ever, and so it's no surprise that the company has big plans for the franchise moving forward. According to the leak, Capcom is going to bring Monster Hunter Rise, the upcoming Switch-exclusive Monster Hunter game, to PC at some point in October 2021. Switch owners will have Monster Hunter Rise playable demos to look forward to along with timed-exclusivity rights.

The other supposedly Switch-exclusive Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Stories 2, may also have a PC port in the works. A June 2021 release is planned for Monster Hunter Stories 2, with the game set to have online co-op, PvP, DLC expansions, free content updates, microtransactions, and amiibo support. If all this is true, then it seems as though Monster Hunter Stories 2 is much more ambitious than previously believed.

Resident Evil

Capcom's flagship franchise is Resident Evil, and so it makes sense that the company has numerous RE projects in the works. Evidently, Capcom is working on a Resident Evil 4 VR port for Oculus, along with some kind of Resident Evil multiplayer project that's due for release September 2021. The Resident Evil multiplayer project goes by the codenames "Project Highway/Village Online," which has led to speculation that it is tied to the upcoming Resident Evil 8. Details on what exactly it will entail remain scarce, but apparently it will be a battle royale.

Speaking of Resident Evil 8, the leak points to fans being able to try the game prior to its planned release date. The Resident Evil 8 release date is now believed to be some point in April 2021, with a playable demo released sometime before launch. Capcom found great success with its Resident Evil 7: Beginning Hour demo, so it makes sense that it would do something similar to drum up excitement for Resident Evil 8.

The leak also alludes to a current-gen version of Resident Evil 8 being in the works. Capcom has previously suggested that it is looking into bringing Resident Evil 8 to current-gen consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One, but so far the game is only officially confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Mysterious Projects

Beyond the Ace AttorneyMonster Hunter, and Resident Evil projects revealed by the leak, the leak also points to a variety of in-development games that are currently only known by their codenames. This includes a mysterious project named Guillotine that is said to be coming to the Switch in February before making its way to other platforms in May. May will also see the release of an unannounced project called Reiwa, and on top of that, Capcom is said to have a multiplayer shooter game in development that is aimed at Twitch streamers. The mysterious Capcom multiplayer project, SHIELD, sounds like it is quite the departure from what the company usually releases, so it will be interesting to see in action.

Of course, fans should take all this information with a grain of salt. It's entirely possible that some of these details are based on outdated information, and that Capcom has no plans to finish some of these leaked projects. However, we'll have a much better idea of just how accurate this leak was or wasn't as Capcom releases games throughout 2021.
