Although there's been a number of high key cancelations over the years, few have felt as mysterious as Deep Down, Capcom's dungeon-crawling co-op RPG that was canceled in November last year. The game was seemingly ill-fated from the get-go, with Capcom remaining suspiciously quiet about its development all the way up until the game's producer admitted that the team behind the title had disbanded.

According to a new report, it seems the game was much further along than many might've thought, with a new leak from VGC claiming that Deep Down was in a "near-complete state" when Capcom decided to close down production. This obviously will come as even more of a disappointment to those who liked the idea of the title, especially as it was one of the more well-received ideas to come from the company in a while.

For those who don't remember the game, it would've been a free to play co-op title that saw players explore a series of menacing dungeons in search of loot with their friends. Allegedly, it would've shown off some significant monster designs, with players going toe to toe with a number of terrifying creatures and other enemies.

While it's disappointing to not see the game release, Capcom has gone on to release a number of fantastic games in its wake, with the company currently enjoying the best run of its career in a number of years. In 2019, they dropped both Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5, two of the best-received titles in their retrospective series, while the company also recently brought out a well-regarded remake of Resident Evil 3.

Deep Down was in development for PS4.
