After the departure of Keiji Inafune from Capcom it seemed as if the notable publishing house was in a bind. Losing one of your key figures, and to some degree the face of your company, can lead to lower sales, and many believed this was where the company was headed. On the contrary, Capcom believes that going into next year, some of their top sellers, like  Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Monster Hunter Freedom 3, will move well over 2 million units a piece.

Sales-wise, Capcom is predicting that Monster Hunter Freedom 3 will move somewhere in the vicinity of 3.6 million units and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will move around 2 million units. Both Marvel vs. Capcom and Monster Hunter Freedom 3 are highly anticipated entries in extremely popular franchises so it is very feasible that each should achieve very high sales numbers. The Monster Hunter series alone has been able to capture an audience on the PSP that very few games are able to. Its ability to sell extremely well in Japan should certainly account for the bulk of the game’s unit count.

As far as anticipation goes, many fighting game fans cannot wait to get their hands on the next Marvel vs. Capcom game. Starting completely from scratch with a new engine has forced Capcom to be extremely selective with which characters they include in the game at launch. So far, the lineup is looking very enticing, and there has been no indication that we are finished with character reveals.

Yes, Inafune has moved on and Capcom was left with a fairly sizable void to fill, but in the fast paced and ever changing video game industry they can’t afford to reflect on anything. Moving forward, the company's R&D department is looking to social networking sites as a new platform for gaming in a step towards adapting to the changing game market. Capcom is looking towards their future and they see some bright things ahead.

Do you think that Capcom’s sales predictions are accurate? Which of the two titles are you more interested in playing?
