Earlier this week, Techland and Ubisoft began teasing the next entry in the Call of Juarez series. That game has been revealed as Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, and will bring the franchise back to its Old West roots.

In Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, players take the role of a currently unnamed bounty hunter, whose eyes are set on some of the most notorious criminals in the Old West. Namely, Billy the Kid, Pat Garett and Jesse James.

Past games in the franchise - including the widely criticized Call of Juarez: The Cartel - have all focused on the McCall family. There has been no word on whether or not Gunslinger will return to the family's lineage, though Ubisoft has released a live action trailer for the game, which readers can see above. The trailer doesn't show any gameplay, but it does confirm that the series will once again take place in the Old West - a thankful change after The Cartel, which moved the series' setting to modern times.

A handful of screenshots have also been released, which we've posted below.

Concentration Mode, the Call of Juarez mechanic that enables players to quickly take out a whole group of enemies, will make a return, and this time our bounty hunter can dodge enemy fire during the process. Gunslinger will also bring a skill-progression system to the series, giving players the ability to mold their shooting style as they see fit. It is currently unknown if co-op will make a return.

Unlike the past three games in the series, Gunslinger will release through digital platforms. The game is scheduled to hit PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and PC in 2013, which may cause some tension with fans. XBLA/PSN games are typically much shorter than their retail counterparts, which has us wondering if Gunslinger will be a full-on Call of Juarez title, or a bite-sized adventure in the Old West. The above screenshots suggests the former, though it's quite rare that a digital title has the scope of a full retail release.

Still, the game sounds like a huge improvement over The Cartel, and we're quite excited to see how Gunslinger turns out.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger releases in 2013 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
