Treyarch officially announces the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombie Chronicles DLC. News of the expansion leaked earlier this month, ahead of the developer’s full announcement of the add-on.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombie Chronicles was announced today by Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 game director Jason Blundell in a video feature by YouTuber JCbackfire. The developer revealed that the downloadable content would feature eight remastered maps from several previous Call of Duty releases.
The eight maps set to get a fresh lick of paint for current generation consoles include: Nacht der Untoten, Verruckt and Shi No Numa from Call of Duty: World at War, Kino Der Toten, Ascension, Shangri-la and Moon from Call of Duty: Black Ops and Origins which is a map from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Although Blundell called the DLC “a loving, fan-service piece” that has been put together “by remaking and remastering eight of the original maps,” some fans won’t be happy with Treyarch and publisher Activision’s release plans for the content. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombie Chronicles will be available on May 16 but PlayStation 4 is the only platform confirmed so far – though it is expected to come to PC and Xbox One at a later date.
Players of the Sony console have enjoyed a timed exclusivity arrangement for several Call of Duty releases now, with DLC coming to PS4 before it’s released on PC and Xbox One. And while that deal was also in place when Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was released back in 2015, some fans were hoping that perhaps everyone would get access to this DLC at the same time. So it’s surely disappointing for PC and Xbox One players that they may get the DLC a month after their PS4 counterparts, or, possibly not at all, as unlikely as that may be.
The release plans may be a little unclear but Treyarch could well explain its plans soon. A Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombie Chronicles livestream is planned for next week as on Monday, May 8 the developer will host a livestream on YouTube, Facebook Live and through the live event viewer in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on PS4. Those looking forward to the DLC are encouraged to tune in.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombie Chronicles will be available on May 16, 2017 on PlayStation 4.
