Call of Duty Zombies fans have been patiently waiting for news on a second Zombies Chronicles, as the original expansion was a huge hit with players. Fortunately, it seems like Zombies Chronicles 2 is in the works, as a reputable insider has given Call of Duty Zombies players a reason to be excited.

Recently, players have been particularly outspoken about their requests for Zombies Chronicles 2, though this is for good reason. Treyarch has hidden nods to some of the maps that would feature in such a DLC inside Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. These range from Buried’s music playing at Outbreak’s fishing spots, Die Rise’s easter egg song on an Outbreak radio, and TranZit’s bus sounds in an Outbreak region. With so many references, it is easy to see why players are desperate for answers.

The fact that Zombies Chronicles 2 has been rumored and leaked since Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies has only added to the hype. Back in June, the reputable insider Tom Henderson confirmed that one more Survival map would come after Mauer Der Toten. He also teased that the Zombies Chronicles 2 maps are complete and ready to go, though he was unsure of whether they would debut during Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War or be held even longer. Fortunately, Henderson has provided an update on Zombies Chronicles 2.

According to Henderson, who provided the update via a DualShockers article, this information still holds up. The Zombies Chronicles 2 maps are being held onto by Activision, and Henderson believes that they could release during Call of Duty: Vanguard’s run. The insider has been vocal about the upcoming project, warning fans that the 2021 game has struggled during development and will be lacking content at launch. However, he believes that Activision could finally release Zombies Chronicles 2 during Vanguard’s life cycle to help win over potential buyers.

Henderson suggests a “mid-2022” release date for the expansion, adding that it will likely be paid content. While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies maps have been free thus far, the original Zombies Chronicles DLC was priced $30 - and fans may be looking at a similar price tag. Henderson does not specify whether the maps will be added to Call of Duty: Vanguard or Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. However, with his previous claim that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War support will continue beyond its yearly cycle, it could be used as the platform for these maps.

While the idea that the maps are finished but not being released is frustrating, it is still reassuring to know that they will come eventually. With a remaster allowing a map like TranZit to finally reach its potential, and classics like Buried to make a comeback, the Call of Duty Zombies community should be optimistic about the future.
