The Call of Duty: WW2 Zombies trailer that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con last week was an incredibly creepy affair. As zombies rushed towards players with their innards flying out and with a menacing voice over detailing the horror of the undead army, it was enough to put chills down anyone's spine.

With that in mind, it comes as little surprise that Call of Duty: WW2 developer Sledgehammer Games is hoping to make its take on Zombies the most frightening version of the game mode ever. Speaking in a new interview, creative director Cameron Dayton said, "This is, without a doubt, the scariest version of Zombies that you will have ever seen" as it is the "perfect storm of technology, and studio talent, and an audience that I just think is ready for something that is going to scare the hell out of them."

The Call of Duty: WW2 developer added, "We've had to really dissect the science of scaring somebody and try to deliver different types of fear potentially in different ways." So, it's no wonder that Dayton also recommended that first-time players do not play the mode with the lights off.

Moreover, Dayton explained that when the team brought in a professional sports team to playtest the game, a zombie jumped out a window, causing the developer to shriek and bump into one of the burly sports players. Activision's senior director of development Jon Horsley also added that character vocalizations "reflect their level of fear," so even if players aren't shrieking out loud, their characters will be voicing their discomfort.

As Call of Duty: WW2 Zombies includes horror movie star Udo Kier, Doctor Who actor David Tennant and many other high profile faces, it's good to see that their talent is being put to good use. While big name actors have previously been enlisted for the series, in this case it seems like the developer has put together a cast specifically to ensure that the Zombies game mode is as terrifying as possible.

Zombies is known for being a fun and frantic mode, so the decision to turn up the horror is likely to prove successful. Playing it with friends who scare easily could be riotous, and it's not hard to imagine the many entertaining Twitch streams of Call of Duty: WW2 fans being scared half to death by the undead.

Call of Duty: WW2 releases November 3, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
