The most recent installment in the long-running Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: WW2, has finally arrived, and the highly-anticipated historical shooter is already performing far better than its space-themed predecessor. According to new sales statistics, COD:WW2 is selling 57 percent more copies than Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare did back in 2016, which indicates just how far last year's title might have missed the mark.

Infinite Warfare itself was also down 48 percent in sales when compared to 2015's Black Ops 3, suggesting that the hype for Call of Duty: WW2 isn't the only factor influencing such a huge sales boost this year. Fans have been calling for a return to classic wars for the last few years, and many believe the science-fiction elements in the franchise to have gone just a little too far.

Boots on the ground seems to be the hot topic when it comes to FPS titles, and Battlefield was the first to enjoy a boost in attention last year. Now it was Call of Duty's turn.

Call of Duty WW2 Hackers

The latest first-person shooter in the market has immediately stormed to the top of the UK charts, according to software tracker GFK Chart-Track, surpassing Assassin's Creed Origins in order to take the number one spot. The newest Call of Duty beat popular titles such as FIFA 18 and Super Mario Odyssey in order to claim victory atop the sales board.

Not only does the game boast some rather impressive sales figures, but Call of Duty: WW2 reviews seem to be higher than we've seen the franchise score in recent years. General consensus appears to indicate that this is a return to form for the iconic series, with a strong campaign and an impressive Zombies game type providing a lot of diversity alongside the popular online matchmaking mode.

For those players invested in the revamped Nazi Zombies mode, we've put together a guide on how to acquire the devastatingly powerful Tesla Gun which is sure to help when combatting the undead hordes. Using the power of science, players are able to wield the weapon only after performing a series of elaborate steps, but the destruction the gun provides makes the effort well worth your time.

Call of Duty: WW2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
