Activision and Sledgehammer Games tease Call of Duty: WW2 multiplayer ahead of a full reveal at E3 2017 in June. Call of Duty: WW2 was announced earlier today, promising to take the hugely popular franchise back to its ‘roots’.
During the livestream announcing the WW2-set shooter, Activision and Sledgehammer not only revealed an explosive trailer for Call of Duty: WW2‘s single player campaign, but they also shared a few tidbits about its multiplayer too. One of these is a return of the popular Nazi Zombies game mode which will feature a “unique” WW2 storyline separate from the main game and can be player co-operatively too, in case fans want to take out the undead blight with a friend.
Additionally, the upcoming shooter promises a new game mode called “War Mode” which will let Call of Duty: WW2 players fight in famous battles from history and will offer different objectives depending on whether players are fighting for the Allies or for Axis. There is also something call ‘Divisions’ which is apparently some kind of character customization feature and includes options for both infantry and armored units along with a progression system.
And these aren’t the only multiplayer features set to be offered when Call of Duty: WW2 launches later this year, either. Activision and Sledgehammer Games also teased a social space called ‘Headquarters’ which seems to be the Call of Duty version of Destiny‘s The Tower.
The main focus of the livestream though, was the game’s story campaign, with Activision and Sledgehammer eager to show how Call of Duty: WW2 is a world away from the ill-received space battles of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. However, the company’s surely realize how much of a draw big, bombastic multiplayer battles are to the franchise’s fans (and a key reason for the series’ success) which is why a full multiplayer reveal is planned for E3 2017 in June.
Activision didn’t have a booth at E3 last year, though it did still show up in a big way during the Sony press conference. With Call of Duty: WW2 DLC launching early on PlayStation it seems quite likely that this will be the case again this year, so fans will want to tune into the Sony presser in order to get another glimpse at the game.
Call of Duty: WW2 will be released on November 3, 2017 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
