For months, rumors have been swirling that Call of Duty: Warzone would be adding zombies to the game, and now those rumors have been confirmed to be true. As announced by Activision, Call of Duty: Warzone is adding zombies as part of its Haunting of Verdansk Halloween event, with players able to take on hordes of the undead in the new limited-time Zombie Royale mode.

Zombie Royale will be added to Call of Duty: Warzone as part of the big mid-Season 6 update, set to release on Tuesday, October 20. This game mode takes place on a night-time version of Verdansk and makes some big changes to how the game works. Instead of players being sent to the Gulag when they die, they respawn as zombies with supernatural abilities like increased speed, improved jumps, deadlier melee attacks, and thermal vision.

Fallen players drop syringes, and if a zombie manages to collect two of these syringes, they will be able to respawn with their loadout. Players can win a match of Zombie Royale by being the last living human alive, even if other members of their squad are still zombies.

Zombie Royale is headlining the big Haunting of Verdansk update for Call of Duty: Warzone, which will be adding a slew of additional content to the battle royale game. This includes Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Saw bundles in the store that allow players to dress as Leatherface and Billy the Puppet, and come with some other cosmetic goodies as well. There will also be a Trick or Treat event taking place inside Warzone, including Zombie royale, where players can earn event-themed prizes. Plus, players can also check out nighttime versions of the standard Warzone battle royale modes.

Halloween-themed changes are coming to standard Modern Warfare multiplayer as well. Gunfight is becoming Gunfright, and there will also be a Halloween Moshpit playlist. Needless to say, Activision and Infinity Ward are going all-out with the Call of Duty Halloween update, which should ensure that the game goes out with a bang leading up to the Black Ops Cold War release date on November 13.

With Black Ops Cold War launching in less than a month's time, it's possible that this is the last major update in the works for Modern Warfare. However, fans can expect the Warzone battle royale to continue receiving new content updates on a regular basis, as the game is going to be tied to Black Ops Cold War moving forward.

Call of Duty: Warzone is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
