UPDATE 3/31: Footage of a Call of Duty: Warzone commercial depicting new designs for locations in Verdansk, like Stadium, with a 1980s aesthetic are currently circulating online, though many appear to be being removed by Activision.

Recently, Call of Duty: Warzone has implemented a ton of new features that have kept the game fresh and exciting for fans to enjoy. Of the new Call of Duty: Warzone season 2 update, all the changes range from buffing gas damage, bug fixes, and a new battlefield.

Now, as the game transitions into its next season, Activision may introduce gamers to a newly updated map in Call of Duty: Warzone. This time, going back to its 1980s-theme from the Black Ops series.

The drastic transformation will be celebrated by an in-game event that will narrate the transition of the setting of the game from Modern Warfare times to fit with the newer game releases. Based on an in-game counter on the current battle pass for this season, it is believed that the next phase of both Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops might begin on April 22, 2021.

It is thought that the game will most likely use the recently discovered nuclear warheads to trigger the map change and start the process. Originally, the Verdansk map revamp was aimed to release last November. However, due to several factors, the company decided to push the release back in order to celebrate the game's first anniversary in March 2021. Given the extreme popularity that this game has seen, it is no surprise that this change is happening.

Although, since there is going to be a new Call of Duty 2021 title happening sometime later this year, this might be the last time Call of Duty: Warzone will see this large of an update for some time. VideoGamesChronicle's sources informed the site that Warzone is seen as a "third pillar" alongside Call of Duty Mobile and full-length games. There will still be continued efforts to ensure fans will receive excellent campaigns, multiplayer, and Zombies/Spec modes going into the future.

Hopefully, fans will be able to have the same amount of enjoyment with this new map as they did from Verdansk. Any long-time Call of Duty fan knows the importance a good map can have in the game, and most likely have fond memories of some. However, the friends that players make from these games and join in on those experiences will likely never go away. As sad as it may be for some to say goodbye to Verdansk, at least fans should be happy knowing all changes moving forward will be in players' best interests.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
