Call of Duty: Warzone has had its ups and downs since its release, and many would agree that the game is not in the best state at the moment. Unfortunately, some Call of Duty: Warzone fans think that the next integration period will only make things worse.
Right now, Call of Duty: Warzone’s cheating problem has become particularly devastating, as the massive number of hackers has pushed several players and content creators away from the battle royale game. However, hacks and exploits have not been the only issue, as integration with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War proved to be just as divisive. The game’s weapons were truly overpowered on release, limiting the meta and making all the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare weapons inferior.
With Call of Duty: Warzone’s recent TTK changes and weapon updates only just fixing the problem, the game spent several months recovering from a messy integration. As such, it is easy to understand why Call of Duty: Warzone fans are worried about another one taking place later this year. In a thread started by Reddit user vol4lyfe123, players like RelationshipOne2969 discuss why they are worried about another attempted crossover. While the fan does see potential in an entirely new map, they are worried about the new weaponry.
Calling back to the last integration and the overpowered weapons that came with it, Relationship2969 is concerned that more integration will lead to the “death of Warzone.” The fan specifies that, while the weapons are old and “inferior,” they will be “buffed to ridiculous levels” so that they can perform as well as other guns. Outside of fearing a ruined meta, the Call of Duty: Warzone player believes that World War 2-era guns outdoing modern era weaponry will be “stupidly unrealistic.” While the Cold War and modern era were close enough for things to seem believable, World War 2 is a lot further back.
These same thoughts are echoed by Reddit user GigaNiko in another comment. Though the player does acknowledge that old guns could still be effective today, they believe it will be “thematically weird” seeing “something like the StG” outperforming the Grau 5.56. If the map does boast a World War 2 aesthetic like it has been rumored to, seeing characters from the Modern Warfare universe running through the map could be incredibly strange as well. GigaNiko also brings up a potential scenario where the weapons may not be balanced properly, showing that this is a common fear amongst the game’s player base.
With pro players like NICKMERCS concerned about Call of Duty 2021 integration as well, Activision and Raven Software will need to make sure it is well thought out. Call of Duty: Warzone’s hacking problem is already turning many away, and poor integration could do even more damage to the game’s reputation.
