While many are excited for Call of Duty: Vanguard Season 1 and all the changes it will bring to Call of Duty: Warzone, other battle royale fans are concerned. The latest target of their worries is Call of Duty: Vanguard’s bayonets, as they could end up breaking Call of Duty: Warzone.

There are likely a few reasons that gamers are so concerned about the bayonets. First, Kali Sticks, another melee weapon, have been laughably broken at times. With some players using these sticks to hit others through walls or instantly win a close quarters fight, many have grown tired of the game’s approach to melee attacks. The other issue is that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s integration was a mess, as overpowered weapons like the DMR 14 and FFAR made the game unplayable for months. As such, some are afraid history will repeat itself.

On top of slip-ups with the previous integration and the availability of other overpowered melee options, Call of Duty: Vanguard’s bayonets have been far from balanced. With the melee attachment insta-killing Flamenauts and getting kills from far longer distances than intended in multiplayer, gamers are worried it will be overpowered as soon as it debuts inside the battle royale game. For example, Redditor IBEATCURRY1on1 shared a meme poking fun at Kali Sticks, and the top comment was quick to bring up Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Redditor poopnada mentioned that the “bayonet with 20ft reach” will be coming in Call of Duty: Warzone Season 1, which will make gamers “forget all about” the Kali Sticks. If the bayonets are as buggy in Call of Duty: Warzone as they are in the game where they originate from, players will indeed be getting killed from absurd distances. While they will hopefully be nerfed prior to their arrival, other melee weapons being so strong makes that seem less likely.

Not only do the bayonets have ridiculous range, but the added lunge for melee weapons in Call of Duty: Warzone could make matters worse. A separate clip from Reddit user Early_Sun_8699 shows an enemy player using a baseball bat to get an unfair kill. Despite being hit with a stun grenade and shot with several bullets, they are still able to lunge from one corner of the building to another. Unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Warzone players were annoyed by this, and the combination between lunging and a broken bayonet hitbox could end up being disastrous.

For now, it remains to be seen if the upcoming Caldera map will be filled with broken bayonets. With players wanting melee changes for so long, and clips like the one above proving that the issues are severe, adjustments to the bayonets and melee weapons in general might be wise.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
