Activision Blizzard recently rolled out an update for Call of Duty: Warzone and many players have noticed changes to their favorite weapons. One fan-favorite weapon, the Modern Warfare MP5, has been hit by a noticeable nerf.

Call of Duty: Warzone officially kicked off Season 5 on August 17. The update patch included numerous changes, with weapon nerfs and buffs joining the addition of some new weapons. Call of Duty outlet Charlie Intel quickly noticed drastic changes to the MW MP5 in the form of reduced damage and reduced range of effectiveness.

The Modern Warfare MP5 nerf brought the Modern Warfare version of the submachine gun down to 31 damage from 34, while the range of effectiveness was also reduced by 5.4%. The Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War version didn't receive as harsh of a nerf, so players may switch to that version of the weapon now. Prior to this MP5 nerf, the SMG was popular amongst Call of Duty: Warzone fans for close-range encounters, but that might change with Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War Season 5.

Some of the best meta weapons for Call of Duty: Warzone since the August 17 update include the Tec-9, PKM, and M16. Several players may have found a gun that works for them, but some MP5 players may be looking for a new weapon. Between the Cold War and Modern Warfare arsenal of weapons, Call of Duty: Warzone fans still have plenty to choose from.

Experienced Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players will notice the drastic changes to the base MP5, but thanks to several attachments, players can optimize the SMG a little better. Players who are just starting out in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War may not notice any changes to the weapon, but these nerfs will likely make it less appealing to the new players.

Several Twitter users recently took to Charlie Intel's reporting on the MP5 nerfs to say that the SMG was overpowered to begin with. Many additional people claimed that it's still a worthwhile gun to have in a loadout, while others said that it needed to be nerfed so that other guns could get the spotlight.

One Twitter user pointed out that many of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare weapons continue to receive nerfs while the Cold War weapons get buffed or are untouched. Some Call of Duty fans were also keen to point out that the Mac-10 remains a more versatile weapon than the MP5 after the Black Ops Cold War Season 5 update.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available right now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
