Call of Duty: Warzone is constantly growing, with new weapons and features appearing in the game regularly. This makes weapon balancing a difficult task, though Call of Duty: Warzone developer Raven Software is aiming to keep the game balanced by adjusting time-to-kill (TTK).

Call of Duty: Warzone’s TTK problem has been unavoidable since Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War integration took place. Once the Cold War era weaponry was added to the battle royale, it did not take fans long to realize that it was far from balanced. The DMR 14 quickly made itself known as the game’s best weapon, while the FFAR and AUG combo dominated shortly after its nerf. With another gun instantly establishing itself as overpowered as soon as changes are made to the previous best weapon, it has become clear that there is a larger issue at hand.

With well-known streamers like Dr Disrespect calling for change, it is clear fans want something to be done. According to Raven Software, TTK adjustments are coming, with the studio making it clear that it is focusing on this area. According to the developer’s patch notes, it believes it is “close to a balance homeostasis” where every gun is at the very least viable. As such, it is now time for Raven “to address time-to-kill.”

Raven then claims that the changes in the latest patch are not meant to be “targeted attacks,” but are instead the first step in “a larger initiative to raise the skill ceiling.” With most Call of Duty: Warzone players agreeing that they are dying too fast, this plan is a promising sign. While Raven makes changes to several weapons in the update, the promise of a “larger initiative” ensures that more TTK adjustments are going to come in a future patch. While it is not specific about which guns will be changing, all weapons seem susceptible to adjustments at this point.

As for the TTK changes made in Call of Duty: Warzone’s May 7 patch, five specific guns were targeted. Alongside a nerf, the dreaded Streetsweeper has been removed as ground loot — with the Hauer 77 serving as its replacement. The CR-56 AMAX received a minor nerf to its minimum damage, while the FARA 83 lost some movement speed and headshot damage. As for the Bullfrog and PPSh-41, both received some range-based buffs, with the latter now able to fire its initial shot more quickly.

With the Call of Duty: Warzone community praising Raven due to its increased transparency with the latest patches, it is great to see the explanations for the changes once again. While it may take time, the game will eventually have a TTK fitting of a battle royale.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
