Taunting one's victim in a first-person shooter is a long-standing tradition of the genre, with easily the most popular taunt found in games like Call of Duty and Halo being the teabag: crouching up and down on a defeated body to rub in the disrespect. This tradition carries on to modern titles like Activision's battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone, but recently one player discovered that it would be best to save the taunting until their opponent is actually beaten.
Twitch streamer Webzy uploaded a clip to the r/CODWarzone subreddit Friday showcasing the last minute of a match. It begins similarly to other impressive, high-octane clips like one of a Duos team pulling off a double assassination, but after a decent killing streak while the circle of gas encroaches, Webzy knocks down the final player and decides to teabag his body rather than finish him off. Naturally, the other player gets up and kills Webzy instead, winning the game.
What ensues is a warranted berating by his teammates, astounded that they just lost a Trios match they appeared to have in the bag. Warzone has many issues that can affect a match which Infinity Ward is planning to address, such as a bug that makes masks unbreakable and could easily turn the tide of a battle, but this particular loss is entirely the result of one man's hubris.
Probably the best part of the story is that earlier in the day the other Call of Duty: Warzone player, who goes by hodl_this on Reddit, uploaded a video titled "Premature teabagulation" from his perspective to the same subreddit. Webzy comments apologizing and saying he's learned his lesson, to which hodl_this says, "Thanks for the rush of serotonin man ... we went nuts."
The aforementioned bugs are just one issue Warzone players have run into as of late. Many feel the battle royale's issue with hackers is getting worse, as despite Infinity Ward's efforts to ban cheaters there appear to be ways around the system by purchasing verifications to get around two-factor security.
However, Warzone and its main equivalent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare continue to be popular among players, and are seeing updates that give fans more to do so they can continue capturing moments like Webzy and hodl_this. Updates have suggested Warzone may add zombies soon, which could add a whole new layer of complexity to the game.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
