While Call of Duty: Warzone has had plenty of bugs over the years, Caldera has had a relatively smooth launch as far as stability is concerned. However, that does not mean that the new map is perfect, something that one unlucky Call of Duty: Warzone player discovered due to a troublesome glitch.

Thus far, most of the issues that players have taken with the Caldera map are tied to its actual design and gameplay mechanics. Some players dislike the layout due to the amount of verticality, while Dr Disrespect has called the new map “boring.” It does seem far less buggy with Verdansk, though, with players not reporting many game-breaking bugs in the days since release. However, one issue of this kind has now been discovered, and Redditor YoungSafavi captured it on video.

In the title of their Reddit post, the Call of Duty: Warzone player says that they have played “dozens” of titles from the battle royale genre, but have never seen anything like what happened to them in the Caldera video. In the first 15 seconds of the match, right after the intro cutscene is complete, the Redditor is instantly killed. The killfeed says that the player was responsible for their own death, which is strange considering that they had no time to move their character at all.

The player’s cause of death may be due to how early they spawned in the drop ship. For whatever reason, it seems like YoungSafavi’s intro cutscene played and finished long before they were in the actual play space. As such, they were waiting in the plane while it was still far into the storm. While they take no damage from the gas, they do die instantly after exiting the plane. This could be because they were still “out of map,” and it is worth noting that their Operator is the only one to jump from the drop ship.

While the reason certainly seems to be that the player was allowed to drop from the plane soon, this is purely speculation. Regardless, they were lucky to be playing in Call of Duty: Warzone’s resurgence playlist, as this moment likely would have been much more frustrating in Vanguard Royale. With players able to respawn if their team survives long enough in Resurgence, the Redditor’s squadmates could bring them back with time. While it is still annoying to be forced to wait during the bug, at least there is some kind of positive takeaway.

Hopefully, Raven Software can find and patch this issue sooner rather than later. For now, unlucky players who find themselves spawning into the storm should wait until the drop ship is above Caldera before jumping out.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
