Call of Duty: Warzone is consistently updated with new modes, weapons, and items, but the latest addition pulls directly from a tactic used by players. Rather than creating something entirely new, the Call of Duty: Warzone team has added a refined version of a killstreak that players have been creating themselves.

The Bomb Drone was discovered within one of Call of Duty: Warzone’s special bunkers, opened via the red access cards scattered across the map. Reddit user hefy123 posted a video of the drone in action, which works like a normal recon drone — only with the added function of blowing itself up. The drone should easily be able to kill enemy players, with a HUD notification showing players that C4 is armed and ready to be detonated at the press of a button.

This is hardly a new strategy, as players have been attaching C4 to drones for some time. With many final kills coming from the fan-made bomb drone combos, as well as impressive takedowns of Call of Duty Warzone’s helicopters via drones, the strategy has become commonplace over recent months. With this official addition to the game, it seems likely that deadly drones will be sticking around for good.

Given Infinity Ward’s approval of C4 drones in the past, it is not surprising that an official version of the concept has been brought into play. Still, as mentioned by hefy123 and other commenters on Reddit, the explosive drone variants could become annoying if overused. With the drone being discovered via a bunker, however, that likely will not be the case, as Infinity Ward’s homage to fans seems to be like a fairly rare item.

While the developer-made Bomb Drone causes a more devastating explosion and takes less setup than the fan-made variant, the traditional recon drone still has some use. Aside from spotting enemies, Call of Duty: Warzone players recently discovered new uses for the Recon Drone that include delivering ammo and armor to players. While it is unclear if items can be stacked on top of this rarer drone variant, its addition is unlikely to eliminate the old process of players making special drones for themselves.

While this killstreak may not be as powerful as Call of Duty: Warzone’s Foresight mechanic, it should still get some use in-game. Before long, fans will likely be seeing Bomb Drone montages online, this time utilizing the official version made by Infinity Ward.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
