With Season 4 of Call of Duty: Warzone wrapping up shortly, anticipation has been building among players eager to find out what Season 5 will bring. After a trio of mysterious packages were sent to popular Twitch streamers from Shadow Company, a new press release and teaser trailer reveal more information about Shadow Company's involvement in the upcoming Season 5.

Set to drop on August 5th, Season 5 looks to bring some substantial changes to the Warzone experience, if the various leaks and rumors are to be believed. Fans wade through these rumors searching for proof, and theories around a moving train being added to Warzone are building steam. While Activision has not entertained any of the fan theories as of yet, it has finally given players something concrete for Season 5, and that is a reveal for Shadow Company. Previously, the group was featured as the main antagonists of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The detailed description of Shadow Company explains that they are "an elite PMC" who "operates outside the boundaries of the original Armistice." Dropping into Verdansk as a group with their own agenda, they are "prepared to change the current experience of Verdansk" which certainly sounds like it could lead to a substantial shakeup for Warzone. The press release tells us who is in Shadow Company, revealing three Operators fans will see in the upcoming season. Rozlin "Roze" Helms, Velikan, and Marcus "Lerch" Ortega will drop into the action. Roze has migrated from the Allegiance faction Jackals, Velikan is a mysterious wild card, and Shadow Company leader Lerch is revealed to be a gun for hire after leaving the U.S. Marine Corps and not enjoying mundane civilian life.

While the story elements of Warzone have never been the main draw, the release of information specifically focused on Shadow Company, coupled with the packages and video clips sent to streamers, is a significant amount of build up. The possibility that Shadow Company could fundamentally alter the landscape of Verdansk is enticing, but fans are also speculating on what new weapons will appear in Call of Duty's Season 5.

Developer Infinity Ward has also said it plans to address cheating in the game, something that has plagued Season 4. Instituting more bans in Warzone will be a priority heading into Season 5, which will be a relief to players getting aimbotted and wall hacked at every turn.

With part of the Season 5 mystery revealed now, Shadow Company looks to bring an exciting new angle to Warzone, and with Season 5 only a week away, excitement is likely reaching nuclear levels.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
