Next week will officially see the start of Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5. Activision has formally announced the Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 release date to be Wednesday, August 5, releasing an action-packed new trailer that has also confirmed a brand new faction that will be joining the fight in Verdansk.

The Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 trailer confirms that Shadow Company is making its debut in the game next week. For the uninitiated, Shadow Company is a group led by the villainous General Shepherd in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Shepherd is nowhere to be seen in the Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 trailer, but fans are introduced to three soldiers who will be part of Shadow Company.

The Shadow Company Operators in Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 consist of Rozlin "Roze" Helms, Velikan, and Marcus "Lerch" Ortega, who is portrayed as the Shadow Company's leader. It's possible that Shadow Company is still led by General Shepherd in the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot timeline, but the character is nowhere to be seen just yet. It's possible that the Modern Warfare reboot sequel will feature Shepherd and Shadow Company's infamous betrayal, but that's just speculation at this time.

While the new Warzone Season 5 trailer confirms the release date and the debut of Shadow Company, it is otherwise light on details. However, Activision has previously teased what fans can expect from Warzone Season 5.

Recently, Activision sent out teasers to various Twitch streamers hinting at some of the possible changes coming to the battle royale map as part of Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5. Perhaps the biggest change pushed by Activision is the possibility of Stadium opening up, which has been hinted at numerous times in the past. However, Stadium opening isn't the only battle royale map change that has been teased. It's also been suggested that moving trains will be added to Warzone as well, but fans will have to wait until next week to find out more.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to see what Season 5 has in store for the standard Modern Warfare multiplayer as well. A leak has suggested that a new Cornfield Gunfight map will be added, but not much else is known beyond that.

Call of Duty: Warzone is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
