Players worrying about the status of certain weapons in Call of Duty: Warzone can finally rest easy. Since weapons are a core element of the series, having some fall behind in the meta can cause imbalance. With a recent patch, Raven Software reveals the team's plans for improving Modern Warfare weapons in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Unlike the classic modes throughout Call of Duty's history, Warzone brings battle royale to the series. Originally, the weapons found in this version were specifically from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Eventually the developers implemented weapons from Black Ops Cold War too, causing a rift with weapon viability. But with this recent patch, it sounds like Raven is starting to close the gap between these various guns.

Fortunately, the commitment to focusing on past weaponry comes straight from Raven's own notes. The team describes how they are going to take a look at Modern Warfare weapons that have been struggling. This comes as a response to community concerns that moving forward only Black Ops Cold War weapons would see tweaks. This is notable given how Call of Duty 2021 will integrate with Warzone, along with other future games in the series.

Fans will be happy to hear that this promise is not just talk from the patch notes. There is also a small tease at what these improvements could look like in the May 7 patch. As a way to unify weapon viability and change time to kill, Raven is adding buffs and nerfs. One of these is to Modern Warfare's CR-56 AMAX Auto Rifle, which previously could reach high TTK at long range. Even as a nerf, it looks to be the first of the changes coming to Modern Warfare weapons in Warzone.

Since weaponry is a core element to the Call of Duty series, it is important that most options be worth utilizing in combat. While this patch only teases the future of Modern Warfare's gear, Raven is certainly committing to creating an even playing field. From the notes, it sounds like the emphasis will be increasing TTK as a way of boosting the skill ceiling. No doubt veteran fans will be happy about TTK changes as it creates a deeper experience.

On the other hand, it is difficult to tell whether these tweaks will have the intended effect. With a nerf being the first major change to Modern Warfare weapons, some players might be unhappy about the Cold War integration regardless. Nevertheless, by not alienating certain weapons in future changes, Call of Duty: Warzone will offer plenty of choice for those enjoying the title.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
