Activision's Call of Duty: Warzone has continued to take the world by storm since the free-to-play battle royale mode for Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launched in March. While the game has continued to receive numerous updates, some players are understandably concerned for the game's future with the release of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X slated for later this year. Thankfully Infinity Ward has confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone will be receiving support on the next generation of gaming consoles.

In an interview with GamerGen, Infinity Ward's narrative director Taylor Kurosaki briefly spoke on the team's plans for the future of Warzone, stating "I know that our plan is Warzone is going to be around for quite some time, so as soon as those new systems are out and available I’m sure we’ll support them." Given the game's popularity, this comes as no surprise, however this is the first mention of the Call of Duty series appearing on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Kurosaki didn't clarify if the next generation support for Call of Duty: Warzone would simply mean backwards compatibility on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, or a brand new remaster of the game.g Kurosaki also mentioned in the interview that Infinity Ward plans on supporting Warzone well after the launch of the next Call of Duty title, which is expected to launch later this year on both current and next generation consoles.

Call of Duty: Warzone has seen huge success since its launch in March and it comes as no surprise that Infinity Ward is intent on keeping the title around for as long as possible. While the future for Warzone is bright, it remains to be seen where the Call of Duty series is headed next, especially with rumors that Treyarch has had to rush development of the next title (possibly Call of Duty: Black Ops 5). Given that new Call of Duty titles are usually revealed in May or June the year they are released, it's easy to assume we are not far off seeing what the next installment in the franchise has to offer.

Call of Duty: Warzone is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions have been confirmed but not yet dated.
