Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's multiplayer suite is still evolving all these months after release. The most recent and largest addition to its online component is a Battle Royale mode, Warzone. In the massive Verdansk map, one hundred and fifty players duke it out for the number one spot either in solo play or teams of three.

Making it to the top spot is difficult, but following some of the ten guidelines below might make that time a little easier. Of course, certain strategies work better than others in different situations and depending on one's play style. While these help, it is ultimately raw skill that will determine who wins the massive conflict.

Updated On March 14th, 2021, By Jason Wojnar: Warzone recently celebrated its first anniversary. The game helped a lot of first-person shooter fans get through the rough first few months of the COVID 19 pandemic, but it would be a disservice to say this is the only reason for the battle royale's success. It is also simply a fantastic addition to the Call of Duty multiplayer suite. With Warzone not going anywhere soon, even as new Call of Duty games like Black Ops: Cold War come out, we took it upon ourselves to update this list with even more tips to surviving longer during the cutthroat game mode. Even if the new map comes out soon, these tips should still apply.

15 Go For Loadout Drops

Those who own the base games have a small advantage over those who only engage in Warzone because of the customizable loadouts. If you buy or find loadout drops on the map, you can utilize your custom weapons and perks in battle. They are expensive, but well worth it. Just be careful when one drops into a field, because another team is likely going for it as well, or maybe even snipe from the rooftops.

14 Buy Self-Revives

Money is extremely important, but cash means nothing if you do not spend it on something. after netting a little bread, we'd recommend buying a self-revive. Few things are as frustrating as getting picked off from far away.

With a self-revive, most snipers will not be able to take you out immediately as long as you fall into some cover. They are admittedly a little less useful in close range battles, but a team equipped with all self-revives will stand a better chance against a squad who does not have them.

13 Be Quiet

One incredible advancement of Modern Warfare is the sound design. Having a good pair of headphones and really paying attention to where footsteps are coming from really does provide an advantage in battle. Adversely, being too noisy is a surefire way to let enemies get the drop on the squad. Crouching while moving through tighter environments goes a long way towards concealing your position from any enemies nearby.

12 Know When To Save Your Comrades And When Not To

We know in a military shooter anything other than no man left behind should be considered sacrilege, but sometimes a team has to know when to cut someone loose. After all, recklessly reviving someone in the middle of a firefight is a great way to get two teammates killed immediately. It is nothing personal if one person has to be left behind. At least in Warzone they have a chance at revival in the gulag.

11 Have The High Ground

Ever since first-person shooters started introducing verticality, it has always been advantageous to have the high ground. Nothing changes in Warzone.

Much like Obi-Wan warning Anakin Skywalker at the end of Revenge of the Sith, players on roofs will always have an easier time fighting than those running on the ground. If you find yourself being picked off by a sniper, an airstrike or a cluster bomb could come in handy.

10 Good Drop Zones

Where one lands is vital to early success in the match. It is the difference between dying within two minutes and making an honest stand. If one wants a calm start, the outskirts prove generally tranquil and a few houses carry some good loot. The Northwest portion of the map near the Dam has plenty of loot and keeps one's back to the wall. For a more hectic intro, the Stadium makes a great drop zone. The sides are lined with loot crates and it is even more appealing now that the inside is accessible.

9 Get Cash Quick

Warzone switches up the typical Battle Royale dynamic by making cash a key feature. With money scattered around the map, one can purchase several items at buy stations, including self-revives and teammates' lives. With this in mind, it is best to try and pick as much cash as possible right from the get-go.

This way, one can quickly revive fallen comrades and even buy themselves a self-revive in case they are downed. Having cash doesn't solve every problem, however, since dying removes much of one's wallet upon revival.

8 Always Go In Squads Of Three

Solo play was recently added to the playlist to give lone wolves an even playing field. One can still go in alone in normal matches, but this is not advised. Going up against squads of three puts you at an obvious disadvantage. Not only do they have more firepower, but they also have the ability to revive each other, even if a teammate fails the gulag. If one doesn't have two friends available to play, even going in with two strangers is better than nothing.

7 Be Aggressive

As tempting as it is to hold up in one spot from the beginning of a match, it will most likely result in a quick death once somebody finds you. While fortifying a small area is a sound strategy, one must first aggressively collect the best loot on the map. Hiding may help you live longer, but it will spell certain death upon the first firefight. Instead, make a run for loot crates and stock up on cash before finding a hiding spot.

6 Adjust The Settings

The game comes packaged in with an almost overwhelming amount of customizable settings. While some of them are subtle, slight adjustments can mean the difference between life and death. For players using controllers, most would recommend a sensitivity around four or five with the ADS sensitivity at about .80 for more precision while aiming down the sights. Standard auto-aim suffices as well. Though if one is uncomfortable with these settings one can always experiment and find something that feels the best for them. Sound is equally important, so make sure the audio is attuned to one's particular set up. Hearing someone's footsteps before they hear yours is the perfect opportunity for a surprise attack, so don't ignore the sound options.

5 Ammo Caches

Munitions boxes are portable ammo stations one can throw down to help themselves and teammates stock up on supplies and refill. These are invaluable, especially when a team has found a place to hold up.

Many police stations and gun stores have ammo caches inside of them which serve a similar purpose. Hitting one of these up early in a match after finding the right weapon ensures one doesn't quickly run out of ammo as most other players are still scrambling to load up on bullets.

4 Go Contract Crazy

modern warfare contracts

Picking up contracts is one of the best ways to net some easy cash. These small missions either task players with capturing a zone on a map, opening several special loot crates, or killing a certain player on the map and revealing their position. The latter is particularly risky, but it can also go well early in the match because the player wins the bounty even if someone else kills them. The prior two are not only good for some quick cash, but they also garner rare loot.

3 Stock Up On Armor

While one can only have three armor plates equipped at one time, an additional five can be kept in the inventory to replenish any lost plates after a battle. Given how hectic some of the firefights are, having additional armor is essential to staying alive. Armor can either be found in the world or bought at the buy stations. Putting them on prompts an animation, so make sure you're in the clear before equipping the plates from the inventory.

2 RPGs Are Great

Explosives like proximity mines and C4 are useful for setting up traps, but the RPG is great as both a defensive and offensive weapon. If a team rolls up in a big truck, two rockets will blow up the car and everyone inside. Smaller vehicles are blown up with just one. It can also take up a whole squad on foot if they are bunched up close enough. The only downside are the reload times, but the other squadmates can defend the player while they load up another rocket.

1 Kill Streaks

While they are not earned in the same manner, kill streaks still play an essential role in Warzone. Instead of unlocking them through kills, players either find or buy them. Each of the ones available are useful in their own way. The UAV doesn't show everyone's location on the map, but a generous radius surrounding the player. Airstrikes are best used when the circle gets smaller, giving opponents nowhere to hide. With the right usage of these bonuses, one can cause utter devastation to enemies.
