Back in August, frequent Call of Duty: Warzone leaker ModernWarzone made the claim that the battle royale would soon be adding private matches. While we still haven't had any kind of official confirmation that Warzone is getting private matches, there is now new evidence to suggest that the long-awaited feature will actually be coming to the game sooner rather than later.

Some Call of Duty: Warzone players are being put into a lobby that includes an option for Warzone Private Matches. This appears to be a bug, and it's unclear exactly how many people it is happening to. However, it's not uncommon for upcoming Warzone content to "bleed" into the game before it's officially been added, and so it's a safe bet that fans will learn a lot more about private matches in the very near future.

It remains to be seen exactly how Warzone private matches will work. Warzone has a staggering 150 players in any given game, and so it would be virtually impossible for fans to put together a proper private match. However, it's possible that the Warzone private matches will let players adjust the poison gas so that they're playing on a small battlefield, removing the need to have a full game. Alternatively, it's possible Warzone private matches will support bots, not unlike custom games in the standard multiplayer mode.

If Warzone private matches give players full reign over the rules, it could result in some pretty interesting custom match types. Not only that, but the mode could provide a great way for players to hone their skills before deciding to face real people in online matchmaking. For example, it could let Warzone players try out new weapons, more thoroughly explore the battle royale map, and maybe even complete easter eggs without having to worry about being killed by enemy players.

Of course, it's possible that Infinity Ward has no intention of ever actually adding private matches to Warzone, and so fans should keep that in mind.

Even if Warzone isn't getting private matches, there should be plenty of new content for fans of the battle royale to look forward to in the months ahead. The launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will see Warzone get an influx of new content based on that game, with things like the RC-XD killstreak and more already teased. Big map changes may also be in the works for Warzone when Black Ops Cold War launches, but fans will just have to stay tuned to find out.

Call of Duty: Warzone is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
