Call of Duty: Warzone is, in its current state, pretty far removed from its reasonably grounded and humble beginnings. The launch of Season 3 content is almost here, and the most prominent novelties include the appearance of Godzilla and King Kong, as well as the discovery of kaiju skeletons on the game's Caldera map, among other things.

Though the full list of new content coming to Call of Duty: Warzone is rather long, the addition of an entirely new location to Caldera is sure to be on every player's shortlist of things to check out as soon as possible. A new blog post detailing the aptly-named "Dig Site" has revealed a number of curious details about this new point of interest, as well as its potential place in the reformed meta.

Now that players have had a good look at COD: Warzone's Godzilla and King Kong in Season 3 following weeks of hype and mystery, and with the new batch of content set to launch on April 27th, Activision Blizzard has moved on to discussing the mechanical changes coming to Warzone's current map, Caldera. The Dig Site is the main new attraction, featuring massive skeletons and digging machines, all of which play host to high-end loot and extremely favorable combat positions.

The title of Season 3 immediately revealed the fact that Monarch is coming to Call of Duty, and the secretive agency's presence will be felt throughout the map, rather than just being limited to the new Dig Site point of interest. Instead, players will discover that Monarch has been hard at work converting Peak, Runway, and Lagoon locations for new gameplay situations. The blog post promises substantive alterations, all thanks to the joint efforts of three game dev studios: Raven Software, Toys for Bob, and High Moon Studios.

Overall, Season 3 content seems rather comprehensive and potentially game-changing in regard to meta, and could very well help make up for Warzone's 50 million lost players that seem to have left the game over the past year. The move to a less grounded style of narrative and gameplay should make for an exciting change of pace, however, and the promotional materials imply that both Kong and Godzilla will sow destruction across Caldera in real-time.

Naturally, some players may feel that introducing Godzilla is too much for Warzone, which is a fair assessment on its own. However, the flip side of the coin is that now is the right time for Activision Blizzard to experiment with wacky events, as Warzone 2 is almost certain to reintroduce a gritty, grounded, and realistic tone to the game, which will then come as a refreshing change of pace.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with Season 3 launching on April 27th.
