Call of Duty: Warzone players have been asking for a new map for a very long time, citing how Fortnite constantly changes its map and PUBG has added a number of maps since its launch. Call of Duty: Warzone is now set to receive its next map, as the battle royale approaches 18 months on the market. The first official look at that next Call of Duty: Warzone map has now been revealed, introducing what's being called the Pacific island map.
To start, Activision wants to make abundantly clear that Call of Duty: Warzone's new map is, at its heart, intended to deliver a parallel if not better experience than what players currently have on Verdansk. The Pacific map is just as large as Verdansk, and it'll feature the same kind of robust post-launch support that Verdansk received, including weapons and content earned through seasonal battle passes.
With that said, it's clear that the Pacific map is also a dramatic shift from Verdansk 1984. In the place of Verdansk's grim soviet landscape, the Pacific map is full of lush jungle, foggy mountain peaks, and steep cliffsides. It's an entirely new map, filled with entirely new points of interest to drop in and explore. And odds are there are some secrets to this Pacific island that its serene-appearing first screenshot doesn't fully capture. This is a Call of Duty game, after all.
Activision also wants to make clear that the new map isn't being introduced to Call of Duty: Warzone just for a change of scenery. Rather, the Pacific map was made based on player feedback over the past 18 months. It's an iteration on the Warzone experience compared to previous map releases. Activision describes the Pacific map as providing an "exceptional depth of combat potential," which should mean that Warzone players will be happy with the changes at the very least.
The new map will be introduced to Call of Duty: Warzone with no disruption to current Warzone players' experience, all of their progression will be retained. The map will also fully support all of the features Warzone players expect on day one. That includes cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-gen support.
All that Activision will say about when the new Pacific map will arrive, as well as the promised anti-cheat system that will launch with it, is that it's currently planned for release in 2021. More information about the Pacific map will be shared as the end of the year approaches.
