Soon, Call of Duty: Warzone will be remade. The battle royale's next update is replacing its long-running Verdansk map with something entirely new, transforming the game into Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific. The map, named Caldera, was recently delayed for an extra week. As disappointing as that is for fans, it's proven to be a lucky turn. That's because Call of Duty: Warzone's lasted Limited-Time Mode, the Operation: Flashback playlist, is quite popular.
The Operation: Flashback LTM launched just two days ago, coinciding with the delay of Warzone Pacific, and has helped make the decision less frustrating. Operation: Flashback is designed to celebrate all things Call of Duty: Warzone, with each round of each match featuring an in-game event pulled from the battle royale's past. Not only does Operation: Flashback celebrate Warzone's past, but it genuinely makes playing the game exciting in a fresh way.
It's the sheer diversity of events that can pop up in a Warzone match that make it so exciting. There are five major events that can start each match, including changes like major Buy Station discounts, free Loadout Drops, and more. Additionally, each time the circle collapses, one of six different events will trigger. Realizing the potential of frantic events changing the game pace, Warzone also increases the number of circle collapses and their frequency, so they hit faster.
Several posts in Reddit's Warzone community have called attention to Operation: Flashback's success, describing it as "fun," "absolute chaos," "amazing," and even, "the best mode they've ever had." One Redditor even goes so far as describing the mode as an example that Warzone's developers really do know how to make the battle royale worth playing. Needless to say, they've been otherwise disappointed with the game over the past year.
What's understandably disappointing about the situation is that Operation: Flashback is still just an LTM. It's only available temporarily. The delay of Warzone Pacific will hopefully lead to Activision keeping Operation: Flashback around an extra week, but once that week ends Operation: Flashback may never return. It also coincides with the free Call of Duty: Vanguard trial, forcing Call of Duty players to choose between the two.
That's also part of what makes Operation: Flashback so special. The best parts of Call of Duty: Warzone and battle royales, in general, is their ephemeral content that's here today, only to be replaced by something else exciting tomorrow. Operation: Flashback will last just long enough for Activision to deliver Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific, which will be loved or hated, only for something else new to arrive after, eventually leading to an inevitable Operation: Flashback 2.
