Much like with any other Call of Duty release, it is expected that Call of Duty: Warzone would plan ahead, outlining a general schedule for DLC releases. However, it seems like the planning for Call of Duty: Warzone is going a fair bit further.

This is not the first time that future content has been teased, as Activision confirmed that future Seasons would include content that was “never done before” inside the battle royale game. While Call of Duty: Warzone's nuke event was likely one of the items being referenced, it seems like there is even more of a reason to be optimistic. In a Washington Post interview with Infinity Ward studio heads Patrick Kelly and Dave Stohl, it was confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone’s future is already known.

While the interview does focus primarily on celebrating the 100 million player milestone for Call of Duty: Warzone, and confirms that Infinity Ward is still involved with story progression, the major highlight is just how much is planned out for the game. According to Kelly, there are “broad strokes” planned “for several years into the future,” and while these broad strokes were not specified, knowing that they are in place is reassuring. With Activision claiming that Call of Duty: Warzone integration and support will remain a focus for years to come, this comment supports the claim.

A more specific detail confirms that the Season 6 content for Call of Duty: Warzone is currently being worked on. This is particularly impressive given the fact that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 3 is not even live yet, with the new update set to drop tomorrow. While planning a Season or two in advance is expected, three Seasons shows some serious focus regarding the evolving narrative of Call of Duty: Warzone. With a clear sense of direction, fans have good reason to be excited.

As for what the “broad strokes” could be, Kelly and Stohl are likely referring to major story events like Hunt for Adler. Clearly, there is a plan in place for the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War chapter of the narrative, and the fate of the characters involved is likely already known. While small easter egg events, vehicle additions, and game modes, are likely not all decided upon, major story beats and map changes likely are. While it remains to be seen if fans will approve of these changes and additions, there is clearly plenty on the way.

With Season 6 for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone already planned out, it may not be long before the strategizing for Call of Duty 2021 begins. With a brand-new Call of Duty: Warzone map rumored to debut next year as well, things are certainly starting to look interesting.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
