Call of Duty: Warzone is Activision’s answer to the popularity of games like PUBG, Fortnite, and Apex Legends. The free-to-play battle royale game supports not only cross-platform multiplayer but cross-game multiplayer as well, connecting Call of Duty: Vanguard, Black Ops: Cold War, and the 2019 reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Now, Activision’s confirmed what many already suspected, officially announcing Call of Duty: Warzone for mobile. The publisher’s yet to announce a release date, but Activision is actively hiring developers and product managers with experience designing mobile games.

Activision announced both the port and the open job positions in a tweet Thursday afternoon. Sadly, the company didn’t indicate when it might be out or any other specific details. Activision accompanied the tweet with an announcement on the Call of Duty website. Unfortunately, it didn’t offer much more insight into the port’s development. However, if the company’s still building a team of developers, the mobile port of Call of Duty: Warzone is probably a long way off.

The post at least provided a list of open positions. Activision is actively hiring Network Programmers, System Programmers, UI Programmers, UI Artists, Producers, and Product Managers to develop Call of Duty: Warzone. These opportunities are spread across several of Activision’s subsidiary studios, including Solid State Studios, Beenox, Digital Legends, and Demonware.

News of Call of Duty: Warzone’s mobile port first surfaced in 2020, when Activision announced new job postings related to a project simply known as WZM. The posting also talked about transferring key features from Warzone to mobile platforms. Subsequent job postings reinforced this, with a purported insider leak in December. The latter indicated a 2022 release date for the Warzone port after a mobile game playtesting service listed the game in its database. However, Activision’s yet to officially announce that Call of Duty: Warzone releases for mobile this year.

Call of Duty: Warzone mobile development positions available

While Activision has yet to reveal much information, it’s not surprising that it decided to go down this route. Warzone’s rivals PUBG, Fortnite and are already available on mobile, with Apex Legends Mobile soft launching in multiple countries. It is thus natural that Activision wants to expand into the mobile battle royale market.

The publisher also had major success with Call of Duty: Mobile. The 2019 game already includes a battle royale mode and enjoys a respectable 81% on Metacritic. This bodes well for the mobile port of Call of Duty: Warzone, though it is, of course, far too early to make any specific predictions.

Call of Duty: Warzone is out now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile versions in development.
