Professional Call of Duty: Warzone player NICKMERCS recently started his own tournament for the game called the MFAM Gauntlet Series. While this event has been impressive so far, boasting rewards valuing $50,000, Activision has decided to partner with NICKMERCS to up the ante, officially supporting the tournament in more ways than one.

The MFAM Gauntlet Series is a reference to the streamer's own community, the merc family, but has since grown into something more. Alongside awarding winning players with money from sponsors, half of all the prize money goes to charity as well, making the whole Call of Duty: Warzone operation extremely beneficial.

Activision pairing up with NICKMERCS is going to have some profound positive effects on the tournament as a whole. For one, Activision is doubling the prize money, adding an additional $50,000 to the prize pool and making the total $100,000, but beyond that it is also promoting the tournament in ways that NICKMERCS never could on his own.

Though the tournament was previously operating monthly, under the new agreement it will take on a four week schedule. Each week, qualifiers and a main event will take place beginning on Monday, July 13th at 3 PM ET. In addition to this, Activision is adding a pre-show event which it calls The Armory, though not much is known about this at the moment. The extra prize money, added clout from Activision's inclusion, and increased marketing capabilities are sure to make this event much bigger than any of the previous months' series.

Fans of NICKMERCS are generally ecstatic about Activision getting involved, as it means that the event can only grow. Activision is setting a precedent by continuously supporting community-organized events, and although at first this was mostly through advertisement, this marks the first time it is contributing financially as well. This is a very smart move, as these community events only raise awareness and promote engagement with the game, and Activision's support will work to creating a better image for them as well. If this type of behavior continues down the line, it is possible that even more Activision sponsored community organized events will crop up.

NICKMERCS still plans to use much of the prize money to donate to charity, particularly the Call of Duty Endowment Charity. This organization helps displaced veterans find jobs and recover from the many misfortunes they often face. Perhaps if NICKMERCS' MFAM Gauntlet Series performs well, Activision will continue to support it.
