Rumors have been swirling that the mega-popular Call of Duty: Warzone battle royale will be adding a new map at some point in the near future based in Urzikstan. And now it seems players may have an idea of what the new Warzone map will use in place of the deadly gas that surrounds players in Verdansk.

Twitter account ModernWarzone released images of the Urzikstan map, showing that it has a sandstorm surrounding it. This has led some to speculate that the Urzikstan map rumored for Call of Duty: Warzone will feature a sandstorm as its hazard in place of the poison gas. Of course, it's possible that this Urzikstan map is being reserved for Spec Ops and won't actually be coming to the Warzone battle royale, though that would be surprising.

Infinity Ward has already incorporated many other Spec Ops maps into the Warzone battle royale, so while the Urzikstan map may initially only be for Spec Ops, one has to imagine that it will be featured in Warzone in some capacity at some point down the line. Maybe the map will added to the existing Verdansk map as part of an in-game event, or maybe it will be a full-fledged second map for fans of the battle royale to try.

Whatever the case may be, one thing is for certain, and that is new content is going to be released for Call of Duty: Warzone for some time to come. It was recently confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone will be a constant for the franchise, meaning that even when Call of Duty 2020 launches, support will continue for Warzone. It stands to reason that eventually Infinity Ward will release a second Warzone map to keep fans engaged, or make dramatic changes to the existing map like we see in Fortnite.

Before such dramatic changes could happen to the map, though, Call of Duty: Warzone fans should expect much smaller ones to happen first. The first change that's likely to happen is that the Warzone bunkers will open up, though what's inside them remains a mystery.

While it's possible that Call of Duty: Warzone season 4 will introduce Urzikstan in some way, fans shouldn't hold their breath. Expect Infinity Ward and Raven Software to keep releasing updates for the game on a weekly basis.

Call of Duty: Warzone is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
