Call of Duty: Warzone has been out for nearly a week and players have already adapted to Activision's take on the battle royale genre. While mastering new elements such as vehicle use and the respawn system, there are also various tricks that can give squads the advantage against the other 147 opponents on Verdansk. On that note, players have now discovered a way to decrease the time spent looting items during a match.

In any battle royale, each second counts and time spent picking up items could instead be used for moving to a better vantage point. As Call of Duty players have come to realize, the default loot option in Warzone with the interact button takes a few seconds too many. Since every passing moment is especially important at the start, it is possible to change the way players grab items to a much shorter amount of time.

Tap to Pick Up Loot

Through their settings, players can opt to tap and pick up any nearby loot with one button.

  1. While in the pre-game lobby or in-game, bring up the Warzone options menu.
  2. In the options menu, move to the 'controller' tab.
  3. Move down to Weapons and then Use/Reload Behavior
  4. Select and confirm the 'Contextual Tap' option

On YouTube, user Scahty uploaded a video showcasing the steps on how to change the loot option. In a side-by-side comparison, he opened several caches and looted their contents in rapid succession. Compared to the non-contextual tap, there were several seconds where players are little more than an over-sized sitting duck ready for the Gulag.

After the change is made, it may take several games for newer players to get used to the feature. However, similar games like Fortnite also use tap to pickup, so veterans from other titles will already have some experience looting that way. Players should also be aware that Contextual Tap changes their other actions as well. Doors, caches, and weapon reloads will now require tapping the interact button during a match.

In the end, players will notice a significant decrease in their looting time once they adjust to the new setting. More than anything, this small trick will offer an advantage now and equalize disadvantages if it becomes the competitive norm. When combined with other tricks like parachuting, gaining those few extra seconds will mean the difference between getting a kill or being sent to the Gulag.

Call of Duty: Warzone is now available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
