Raven Software continues to update Call of Duty: Warzone to optimize the battle royale experience, but many players are noticing reduced player lobbies as a result of a recent change. Due to some recent issues, Raven Software has confirmed that the smaller lobbies are intentional, but the team is looking to fix it.

Beginning on December 29, Call of Duty: Warzone players started to notice that many lobbies had reduced player counts and Raven Software has clarified the issue on its Trello Board. According to Raven Software, the maximum player count in many Call of Duty: Warzone modes has been reduced in order to help reduce issues causing some players to disconnect from matches suddenly. Although Solos, Duos, Quads, and Trios have all had their lobby sizes reduced, Vanguard Quads appears untouched by the recent update.

Raven Software didn't officially announce the reduced Call of Duty: Warzone player count number, but it didn't take fans long to discover the smaller lobbies from playing the game. Call of Duty YouTube content creator JGOD took the opportunity to clarify the numbers on Raven Software's behalf, stating that Solos, Duos, and Quads matches are down to 140-player lobbies, Trio lobbies are down to 138, and Vanguard Quads remain at the maximum of 152 players. It remains to be seen whether or not Raven Software will have to alter these numbers further, but if performance improves for players, the disconnect issues may be linked to the server's ability to handle all of the players.

Although many Call of Duty: Warzone fans have been calling for an increase to the player count in matches, these recent changes suggest that Raven Software doesn't have the technological capability of increasing it. The recent move to the Pacific Caldera map from Warzone's Verdansk '84 may be the root cause of these disconnect problems as several changes to the battle royale came with it. It's currently unclear whether or not the reduced lobby sizes have improved the Call of Duty: Warzone player experience, but because of Caldera's size, it may impact the flow of each match.

Considering there are weapons and features that are only available in the affected modes, there may be connection issues associated with the variety. Raven Software hasn't officially confirmed how reducing the player count of a Call of Duty: Warzone lobby will solve the technical issues impacting players, but there are now fewer opponents for players to overcome in order to be the last person standing in Caldera.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available right now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
