Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific is exciting for new and old players alike, as a new map, weapons, and anti-cheat system are just a few days away. However, not all Call of Duty: Warzone fans are excited, as some controversial changes are also being made to the way the game works.

One such change sees who win Call of Duty: Warzone’s Gulag respawning with the weapon they had equipped inside the one-on-one arena. While this has brought some criticism from streamers like Dr Disrespect, it is not the only change being made. Once Caldera arrives, loadouts will work differently, with players only able to purchase them after the first drop events happen in a match. This means that high-level players need to wait a bit to gear up, keeping everyone on even footing for a good portion of the game.

As one of the most skilled Call of Duty: Warzone players and content creators, it makes sense that NICKMERCS is frustrated by this decision. Good players can rack up a bunch of kills and collect plenty of money at the start of a match, which they can then use to snag a loadout drop early on. With the new system that is being introduced, though, all players must wait until later in the match, keeping everyone on equal footing so that good players cannot jump ahead quickly.

With loadouts being inaccessible until later on in each session, meta Call of Duty: Warzone weapons are not able to come into play as soon as they usually do. While this is great news for players who are new to the game or lack the skill that others have, top-tier players like NICKMERCS feel like they are being punished. In a Tweet from the pro player, he says that the new mechanic only “gives the bots more time to run around” and enjoy the impressive visuals of the Caldera map.

In the same Tweet, NICKMERCS states that his main fear is that the new system will slow the flow of the game down. This is a fair concern, as players may be unwilling to take risks if they do not have their loadouts. When someone stated that he just “woke up grumpy,” the pro player reiterated that he simply dislikes changes to “fundamentals” of a game. With the FaZe co-owner firmly believing that the move was done purely to “assist the bots,” he is unlikely to change his stance on the change anytime soon.

With Call of Duty: Warzone Season 1 just a few days away, fans will soon know how much the loadout adjustment impacts a battle royale match. If NICKMERCS is right, though, players could be looking at significantly slower gameplay sessions.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
