With the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone Season 4, the battle royale's Fortune's Keep map transformed into the Cursed Ground. The Cursed Ground added many changes to Call of Duty: Warzone, some of which were received better than others. One of the additions in the Warzone event was the return of the Hunter Perk, found within Cursed chests that open after defeating associated zombies. This perk specifically has led to some frustrations, with some Warzone players wanting the Hunter Perk to be removed.

A post recently shared on the Call of Duty: Warzone subreddit captured exactly what player frustrations are regarding the Hunter Perk. The first half of the shared video shows a player and his squad being completely obliterated by a single player aggressively climbing through a window. The player is able to aim and kill the squad quickly as if they knew where each player was before they leaped through the window. The truth is, the aggressive Warzone player did.

In the second half of the video, the kill cam shows exactly what the victorious Call of Duty: Warzone player saw before they climbed through the window. Due to the Hunter Perk, the player was able to see outlines of every player in the room before they climbed in. As a result, they could effectively pre-fire their enemies before they even realized what happened. It's an officially sanctioned wallhack.

To be fair to the Call of Duty: Warzone developers, the Hunter Perk requires some setup. Players have to kill a bunch of Cursed Ground zombies to earn it, so it's an earned Perk. Further, the Perk doesn't last forever, so this player was simply capitalizing off their accomplishment. However, it's undeniably very strong and arguably unfair.

What it comes down to is how much tolerance Call of Duty: Warzone's developers and players have for that kind of intentionally unbalanced strength. It's the same idea as looting, at its core. Those who loot more, or who defeat more players, have greater odds of finding stronger loot. Completing a Cursed Ground chest offers a chance at stronger rewards. Battle royale players are always fighting for an advantage, but there's a significant amount of chance involved.

Perhaps a better question isn't whether the Hunter Perk grants an unfair advantage, but whether it's fun. In the video clip, those killed by the player with the Hunter Perk certainly didn't have fun. That's hopefully something Call of Duty: Warzone's developers take into consideration when deciding whether to bring the Perk back in the future.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
