When Call of Duty: Warzone first launched, it did so with a number of innovations to the battle royale genre. One of the most popular innovations was the Gulag, which allows killed players to earn their way back into a match by defeating an opponent in a 1v1 encounter. Call of Duty: Warzone eventually replaced the original Gulag with new versions based on existing Call of Duty multiplayer maps, a decision that was somewhat divisive in the community.

With Call of Duty: Warzone Season 6, Activision and Raven Software are bringing back the original Gulag that fans remember from when Warzone first launched. The Gulag will look near-identical to how it did during its original run in Call of Duty: Warzone, but besides some minor cosmetic tweaks, there is one notable change that fans will want to keep in mind when the Gulag returns to the battle royale on October 7.

Activision has confirmed that the returning original Gulag now has a new set of lockers that appear in the spawn points on the map. These lockers will allow Call of Duty: Warzone players to take advantage of new sightlines that weren't available before. It will be interesting to see how these new sightlines change up strategies in the original Gulag, if at all.

Fans have been asking for the original Gulag to return in Call of Duty: Warzone for some time now, so it's great to see it finally make a comeback. However, one has to wonder exactly how long it will be available in the game. It's possible that the original Gulag will only be playable in Call of Duty: Warzone Season 6 and will get replaced once a new season of the game starts, though that remains to be seen.

In the meantime, the new Call of Duty: Warzone map launching later this year could very well introduce its own take on the Gulag. For the uninitiated, Call of Duty: Warzone is getting a new large scale map based on the Pacific Theater of World War 2, launching as part of Warzone's integration with the new Call of Duty: Vanguard game. Not a lot has been revealed about this new Warzone map to date, but with the Call of Duty: Vanguard release date right around the corner, fans should find out more sooner rather than later.

Before the new Call of Duty: Warzone map launches, fans have the Halloween event to look forward to, with The Haunting invading the battle royale beginning October 19. Not much has been revealed about Call of Duty: Warzone's Haunting plans this year, though leaks have revealed that Ghostface from Scream will be one of the skins available to purchase in the shop.

Call of Duty: Warzone is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
